Not sure if this has been Polled Before ?...

Anyway what "Producer" do you reckon did the Best Job for "Sparks" over the Years... Ok .. Its a Prettty Hard Call.. But thats what "Polls" are all about I guess ..

My Choice will be Tony Visconti..

Mack was dreadful.Their worst producer by far.

As for the latest three albums, specifically... I saw many opinions on the need for an outside producer, but I'm really afraid to think how these albums would have sounded if there was an outside producer.

I agree.Ron and Russell started out as excellent producers but now they need help.The last 3 albums have been weakened by it being just the 2 of them 7 days a week for a year or more.They just lose perspective on whats good and whats overproduced and repetitive.

As fantastic as Tony Visconti was it just has to be Ron and Russell, the sound of Lil' Beethoven just speaks for itself really, amazing production!

@ Stephen: Well, I'm a big fan of the last three albums, not to mention that LB and HYL got me into Sparks, so I really meant it when I said I'm afraid to think about any intervention of any outside producer :)
I understand what you're talking about, but can't and never felt the need to imagine such songs being simplified or shortened or having a warmer sound (=a real orchestra and chorus).

They've all participated in making all 21 Sparks-albums sound like they do, and if they suddenly could re-mix everything, it wouldn't sound like it should.
It would be weird.

And even though I'm incredibly tempted to vote for Rupert (I'll fight for Big Beat until my dying day), I think I won't vote for any of them.

Thought long and hard over this one and just cannot come up with an answer. I hate the production on No 1 In Heaven. If the songs, which are great, sounded like the brilliant version of Tryouts...... on Dee Vee Dee. well! Did Mr Moroder have too much imput? or was it simply technology was too primative? What does it really matter after all these years? Guess I'll trust to the judgement of R&R. Who am I .............
