You know what would make this gig even better? If they played Peter Cook's rambling monologue about Tryouts over the PA just before the band come on and launch into it... |

I've noticed all bands seem to have horrible music playing before they come on...I've always assumed it's so that the crowd is more relieved when the music stops and they come on to play, so they get bigger applause! |

For one night only, Disco Ron was back!! This album was a departure for Sparks back in 1979 and blew my mind then, and it still stands the test of time now - is it really almost 30 years old? Not one of the best nights of the series so far, but still another brilliant all round performance from all concerned. No jacket tonight Russell? Ron was, er....well....Ron. All six tracks were performed to perfection - they even pulled off My Other Voice. Those opening chords of The Number One Song In Heaven make the hairs on the back of my neck stand up every time and this track definitely the highlight tonight. If this isn't the best disco album ever written then I don't know what is - and no, not Saturday Night Fever!!! I wondered what the bonus would be tonight and they gave me what I'd hoped for - Dancing Is Dangerous; simply wonderful.

FAB!!!! "My Other Voice" was sublime. Russell looked so cute in his braces. I thought my eyes were deceiving me when I saw Ron's hair and lack of tie, lol. I've never heard "Dancing Is Dangerous" before but it rocked.

Ron – kudos for the hair. I’d like to know how he reproduced the synth sounds so accurately…they were using different keyboards back then.
Of course, I knew that the drum bit in Beat the Clock would be amazing (go Steven), but the real surprise for me was No. 1 in Heaven. I’m always kind of shocked by the song that works best live, and that one’s really hard to sing. Everyone’s always going on about how a singer’s voice deteriorates with time, but that’s obviously not true. Amazing job.
And the encore was a song I’d never heard before, which is cool. Can’t wait for Young Girls tomorrow – one of the most psychologically disturbing songs I’ve ever heard. |

How happy did Ron look when taking his bow at the end ? And such a good hair day too........Hats off to Mr Nistor - a thoroughly decent unassuming chap. What a talented young guy and surely one of the best and versatile drummers around anywhere at the moment. Top man Steven, thanks.......

I don't like disco, but liked Donna Summers "I feel love", though. So this album, is .... great! As this is Sparks, of course. I did not even now the second song, Academy performance, what a nice surprise! The same for the encore. Dancing is dangerous. I did not know that one, too. And I thought I Knew ALL Sparks songs! RON, you looked swell, wow!
The only song I did not recognize, is my other voice! I know that one, well I have to hear the replay anywhere, then.
I miss the guitars, though they were somewhere at the background. But all of the electronic sound effects are very futuristic, they sound wonderful. The combination of the beats and Russell's voice works!
Tomorrow another well deserved day off, boys. See you! _________________ Stop, there's gotta be a million girls like her, though
I can't think of one |
