Van Morrison and Cliff Richard? That's a combination! I love Van singing "Cleaning Windows"
I'm listening to quite a bit of Aretha Franklin at the minute but also have just finished playing John Adams "Nixon in China"..... (does this thread have to be pop music only? If so apologies but this opera is a cracker and weirdly enough some of the repetitive passages reminded me of parts of "Annette") |

Annie was hooked up with Roy Wood around then and he had some input when the band said it might be selling out to try and write a hit single. I think he rubbished that idea. _________________ I Think that went very Well |

Ron has spoken several times of the influence Nixon in China had on him |

Has he?? Ha ha Ron is obviously a man of great taste!
John Adams is wonderful and funny.... His piece "A short ride in a fast machine" is a blast! ". I can imagine Ron would love that ( and Russell too, we shouldn't leave him out of the equation!) |

I didn't know what to expect but it's exactly what l expected.... Not sure if that's a good or a bad thing, but l'm "dancing" round my ironing board to it so it must be OK! |

Ron and Russell have also mentioned another John Adams opera, The Death of Kinghoffer, as being an influence on them.
An album of one of his more recent operas, Girls of the Golden West, has just been released, and it reminds me of Sparks in places, probably even more than those other two operas. Just something about the repetition of certain phrases. Nixon in China is easily my favorite though.
I'm a big fan of John Adams in general (not just the operas) and I owe it all to hearing about him from Sparks. |

Mad Love - Bad Juice 8 - 10
Gemma Ray produced the recently released album this is
off Amour Noir . If you know her stuff then you can hear the influence on this one straight away. Pretty good album overall . It does not overstay its welcome . Compact and catchy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WUMdtatARnE _________________ I Think that went very Well |

Broken Social Scene - Self Titled Full Length Album
Album cover, radioactive reds with a soul wrenching orange and thick oil pastel skyline. Entire album reminds me of the oxygen deprivation of being in co-ed art classes as well as one solitary picnic training my middle brother for the "unvoiced" lessons in his scouting troupe. We also listened to Zeppelin.
