TLDP played live on the Jo Whiley show (BBC Radio 2) last night. The band's reviews often mention Sparks (TLDP's debut LP is very good, by the by); their session included an energetic and faithful cover of This Town... - well worth a listen. Lots of encouragement to include it in their live shows. Given their profile, it would help spread the word about R&R to a young audience! |

Thanks for the info, just listened and it is a very good cover, they sounded nervous about doing it live |

Interesting. I'll track this down.
I don't particularly hear much of the influence of Sparks in TLDP ... certainly the ABBA influence appears to be much stronger.
But can't wait to hear this cover. |

Probably won't work outside UK, unless you've got a VPN
Chat about Sparks begins 1 hour 2 mins, this town at 1 hour 8 mins

I think if somebody was introduced to Sparks in the last ten years the comparison to Sparks is reasonable. I agree that the album is interesting.
I mentioned TLDP in 'Other Artists' over a month ago because I liked this one.

They will be in Columbus (OH) on April 4th. I'm leaving my calendar open but doubtful due to the two hour drive.
I was googling around for This Town by TLDP and stumbled across this version...

...did we talk about this before or have I chosen to forget?
Back to TLDP...audio of TLDP doing This Town at 1:08 that
works in USA

It's at ~1:08:20. Randy, I thought you meant it was at 1 minute and 8 seconds. _________________ better drop the requirement that everything be great |

Re: TLDP version of This Town
I liked it. They are certainly students of that song because they got mostly all of the little nuanced instrumental things from the original. Some might argue that you should do something original if you are going to cover a song, but I didn't mind. I think I'll go back to the broadcast to listen to the interview part as well. _________________ better drop the requirement that everything be great |

Reminds me a bit of Marina & the Diamonds when she released "The Family Jewels" a fair while back now. Vocalist has a similar vibe about her . Sophie Ellis Baxter has covered them already ! Seems to be a big outfit . How long will it survive in this format is anybody's guess . _________________ I Think that went very Well |

This topic is a question in today's Thursday Quiz in the Guardian; Ron features as a possible answer in another question, so Martin Belam has spoilt us today. |

Not the same anticipation as last year obviously, but I noticed TLDP are playing Glastonbury on saturday afternoon. Interesting to see whether they'll do their cover of This Town |

TLDP's live performance on the Jo Whiley show not only revived the unique sound of fnaf Sparks but also proved their strong appeal to young audiences, bringing a new breath to Rock & Roll with freshness and appeal. |

Russell met up with The Last Dinner Party "after their gig at the Fonda in Los Angeles last night. The band has been playing a great cover of 'This Town Ain't Big Enough for Both of Us' at their shows", says @SparksOfficial on Twitter. Go here https://t.co/U4JIITSGq5 for the picture of Russell with the ladies. He needs a haircut. _________________ better drop the requirement that everything be great |
