Let's just pile it on, folks. Variety magazine named the 25 best concerts of 2023. Yes, they are on that list, too.

I realize I'm not young and hip but I like to think that I'm informed. I'm surprised at the number of artists I've never heard of on the list.

Impressive that this diverse list is from one person (Chris Willman) and not compiled by a staff of writers. It's a shame that most of us don't have the time or the funds to see all these shows in one year let alone all the shows not on the list.

The one show on this list that I wish I could have seen is Willie Nelson's Birthday Bash. I'm not a guy that likes 'all-star' type shows but that one was soooo star studded.

Randy, as you know, I'm even less young and hip than you are, so I knew basically no one on the list except Sparks (well, and Taylor Swift, but that's like not knowing the Beatles in today's world). That makes it even more impressive that Sparks is on this list of youngsters.

I got this information from Twitter after a sleuthy fan posted it. Sparks posted it after the fan did. I commented that it was fabulous that they were on the list, but what the author missed was that the other 24 best concerts should also have been Sparks concerts. I'm so witty. Anyway, five minutes later, the author of the article responded to my post with "Sorry about that." The highlight of my day.

Well Done!

I suppose it's true with all cult type bands but I love how fans (no matter the age!) take a front-line approach. Always spreading the word, pushing the envelope and wearing their fandom proudly.

That one show on this list, Willie Nelson's Birthday Bash, is the one that I really hope I had have been able to attend. Although I am aware that I am not young and hip, I would like to believe that I am knowledgeable.

For those that don't know, here is a list of guests at Willie Nelson's Birthday Bash.

Thinking about all-star type shows. I consider the gold standard to be The Last Waltz by The Band.

Went on holiday to LA a few years ago and rented a house in the Hollywood Hills. The owner asked for what I thought was a rather substantial damage deposit. Apparently it had just been rented by Snoop Dogg and associates and they made something of a mess of the place

Anything less would be unacceptable!
