Two London dates? Sounds great, though I may have to choose just one. _________________ 21Mar09 • 28Oct09 • 13Jun12 • 22Oct12 • 1Dec13 • 19Dec14 • 26Aug15 • 19Sep17 • 20Sep17 |

Great news about the UK shows!
Looking on the website for the Union chapel, Sparks are booked there for a third night - 24/11, 1/12 and 2/12: http://store.unionchapel.org.uk/ Is this right, as it's not on the announcement? _________________ "but we can hear what others can't hear..." |

Hope to see the Scottish contingent in Glasgow - Ally, Bobby, June H, Douglas - and Michael, all the way from NYC, can't wait to see everybody!! There's a bar in The Arches which also sells food, so wee suggestion - meet in there pre-gig?

With passion and song they came alive. Their tuning was great even for the higher numbers, and they weren't still all night.
And that was just the audience in Glasgow.
Glasgow always provides the best crowds, despite Sparks having seemingly mysterious spell of magnetism to draw people from all over the world to a single date.
The exuberant mood in the Arches was marketly different to the anxious anticipation in the Union Chapel. Whilst the darkness in the gothic interior gave a creepy feel inside the chapel, the darkness in the Arches simply enhanced the spotlight that Russell stepped into. Lurking beside candle-lit gargoyles, in the chapel, as the slender figure in black that came in the view was eerily reminiscent of Ceaser the sonambulist assassin from the German expressionist silent masterpiece, The Cabinet of Dr Caligary. Its not such a leap to conjure such a comparision given the marriage with Guy Maddin for the snowballing "Seduction of Ingmar Bergman" - watch the wonderful "Careful" and you'll get my drift. However, here Russell was his own star as he stepped into the stagelight, strikingly handsome in a boyish way. Shrill thrilled shouts of female approval came from deep within the perfume scented middle ranks.
Ron's entrance was met from a bellow from a fellow at the rear,
"Here comes the bogeyman!!"
Laughter.
The great thing about Glasgow crowds, is you'll feel part of them. Its as if your soul is part of a whole. Yet, that whole is made up of sparkling colourful characters all with something unique and sometimes startling to say.
"Ron, you sexy bespectacled man!" shouted one female voice near the front. And, Ron, forever master of minimalistic humour, can with a millimetre of eye movement send us into stitches eternally.
Of course, that singalong that had started by just a few indiscreet at the back of the pews in the Chapel had re-emerged as full bodied and lively.
Russell's vocals that night have left a memory I want to carry to heaven if allowed in. Soaring and soft at the same time, tempo change, then suddenly powerful rocketting high off the scale, I was worried about glasses shattering, especially Ron's.
Glasgow was a fantastic experience. As well as wishing I could thank R&R, I wish I could've shaked the hands of every grinning ticket payer there. |

Sounds great, Ally. I've never been to a gig in Glasgow, though was at the show in Edinburgh last year.
To be honest though, it annoys the life out of me when people shout stuff out at R & R.

Only been to one gig in Glasgow from Hello Young Lovers at the ABC and it was different gravy. The atmosphere was electric.I think it was Russell's birthday which put the cherry on the cake.I strongly believe the further North you go the less reserved folk are.I jibbed out on the travel this time and opted to stay in London on Monday after the Union Chapel gig.I loved the setting at the Union Chapel and it was a really lovely experience.Oxford Street is great but we should of been in Glasgow. Will put that right next time no doubt-hopefully in 2014. |
