High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire.
A thick layer of snow outside.

I live on a steep hill, so I'm not taking the car out today until the snow has gone, because last year I went out before any cars had driven through it, and it was like a skating rink. I couldn't control the car and ended up pranging the front against one of those Grit containers, ironically.

Ah "Grit Containers"...used to be on almost every corner when I were nobbut a lad...the local councils had to remove most of them on finding they were being used for everything from litter bins to toilets....plus the grit was always being pinched and stored in garages by people for use on their drives.

We've had around -30 degrees (celsuis) lately, clear skies, tons of white white snow and sun. Perfect winter weather, looks like I'm living on a Christmas card.

We have nearly two feet of snow in the Washington, D.C. area -- a record snowfall for December! It's so pretty, but I haven't had to leave the house yet and suspect the roads are awful.

I just went out in my pyjamas and dressing gown to take the rubbish out and could hardly believe my eyes! There are loads of crashed and abandoned cars on my street (a steep hill). I knew that the car which had crashed into the telegraph pole (see earlier post), was towed away on Saturday but there is now another one in the same position, although undamaged. The side of the road which faces up the hill, is blocked by three cars facing downhill, one of which is against the kerb and at right angles to the traffic. This one was abandoned with its passenger door left wide open and the map light on, so I switched it off and closed the door. Further down the hill there are four more cars left at strange angles, up the kerb or the enbankment and another six which are at least parallel to the kerb but in places where nobody ever parks. I've lived in this hill location for seven years and have never seen it like this before!

Two and a half hours to do a 40min. journey last night...and that was only because I knew how to get around Selsdon,Purley and Hooley avoiding the worst of the hills...but from what I could see a lot of cars were having troubles up side roads and steep hills...sat-navs have a lot to answer for.
I've just got to get through today then I'm off.....all the broken down heating systems will be someone else's worry!

Dont wanna be smug or anything... but people love to take the wee wee out of Bognor Regis... (cos it's got BOG in it), but all the streets round here are clear as you like. Yeah we had the snow... not much though, it's often like that in Bognor, decent weather when all around is cats and dogs.

So, if you're faced with a mountain of snow against your back door... get wise,,, move to Bognor.

Mind you, there aint much to do, the shops are rubbish, all the women (girls) are pregnant (again) and don't speak English. Boots operates on 3.5 staff and we only have them make believe coppers. Oh, and we have a sculpture in the town centre that looks like an ice cream scoop with a hole in it.

Sh*t... give me a blizzard, before I die of boredom.
