When in Stockholm, just take the subway to Slussen (all trains 13, 14, 17, 18 and 19 will stop there) and head for the exit "Hökens Gata". When you finally will come up to the street take left and, just around the corner, turn left again. Now you should be on the street called Hökens Gata, a steep slope leading up to Mosebacke square with Södra Teatern on its left hand, i.e. north, side.

The total walk is no longer than 200 meters. The bar at Södra teatern will be opened at 5 pm. If you'll arrive earlier, there's a decent out-door café in the square. I made all of you unfamiliar with the geographics of Stockholm a Google Map with some useful url's.

If you've established that you're in the right part of town (i.e. Södermalm), you're on the right track as long as you're going uphill.

Can anyone recommend a good place to stay close to Södra Teatern?

I'll be going on my own, and would rather not travel all over a strange town at night, so the closer the better :)

One of the following hotels Scandic Sjöfartshotellet, Scandic Malmen, Anno 1647 or Columbus should do well, they're all good and really close to Södra Teatern. Their prices may differ a lot, though.

Thanks a bundle! I'll check them out as soon as I get my ticket.

...

Anyone else had any trouble booking their tickets?
I can't seen to do it, it won't accept my card details.
Been in touch with them, and they say they've had similar complaints lately.
Other option is to order via phone, but I'm at work with no phone access during the day.

I might have a day off maybe next week, but hopefully they'll fix their website before then!

I am thinking of flying in on the Friday (work permitting). But the best flight for me, arrives at 16.40. I have 2 free nights I can use at the Intercontinental Grand in Stockholm. My question is as I am on a tight time schedule, can I get the train from the airport straight to the Sodra Teatern? how close is the station? The reason I am thinking of the train is the cost is half of a taxi plus it is quicker. Any feed back would be appreciated as I don't want to fork out on a flight and taxis if I am going to miss the event!

The Arlanda Express train halts at the Central Station which is two metro stops from Södra Teatern ("Slussen" being the closest one).

It is possible to walk from Central station to Slussen, a scenic route that takes you right across Stockholm's Old Town and up to the hills of Södermalm.

The red line will guide you via an old wooden staircase up to Mosebacke. A less daunting alternative is to follow the green line and keep right when crossing the water - or the blue line if you are dragging anything with wheels and want to avoid steps altogether. There is also the option of taking the Katarinahissen elevator (marked on the map).

Anyway, if you're carrying any large suitcases or grand pianos, you may be better off taking the metro. Buying a ticket at the barriers will cost you a minimum of about €4, buying it from a ticket automat will cost you less than €3 (provided that you can find one and figure out how it works).

Parus thank you so much for the great info. It is looking doubtful for me now, due to work but I am still working on it!

No problemo - If you do get away, I think you stand a fair chance of getting there on time as long as you travel with hand luggage only. The Arlanda Express takes only 20 minutes, another 20 minutes for a brisk walk (less with the tube) and with any luck you have an hour to spare.
