Hello; My name is Rich. I saw Sparks @Santa Monica Civic in Dec. 1975 on their "Indiscreet'' tour. I'm 47 yrs old now. I think i was 15 or 16 at the time. Thank God for my Best Friends' older brother for the tix.....even though i had the KMH & Prop LP's at the time. Awesome show....just wondering if anyone else got to see this show and or tour???

I was thrilled to have been there. I also saw them at the concert where Russell came out at the end dressed as the New Year's baby--maybe the following year?

Unless I'm going mad, I recall that Russell came out dressed in a sort of diaper ensemble at a New Year's Eve concert in Santa Monica in the mid seventies.... He was just adorable, needless to say! I'll search for my diaries to see if I'd written more. Perhaps someone else remembers this?!

New Year's Eve concert Dec. 31, 1976, Santa Monica Civic Auditorium. My friend and I were so excited to see their limo drive by outside. The audience was wildly decked out in their finest New Year's regalia. Opening act was Flo and Eddie. At the end of the night Russell came onstage as the New Year's Baby and sang "Auld Lang Syne" with everyone heartily singing along. What a glorious way to usher in the new year!

Geek Alert....
Don't know about dressing up(bit cold in this hemisphere)...but the New Year is always traditionally portrayed as a new-born baby whilst the Old Year is portrayed as a dying old man(aka old Father Time)...who passes on the mantle of the coming year....it stems from the ancient greek legend about the annual regeneration of Dionysis(see...Doctor Who wasn't the first one to do it!!!)
It's part of the reason that Christianity chose this time of year to celebrate the birth of the Christ child...though many cultures and religions celebrate rebirth at the winter solstice.

Whatever the origin, his young self was just pretty enough to do anything and get away with it. Though I must confess that even these days he could don a rather severe Victorian dress with a thousand layers and some kind of ridiculously decadent parasol, and I'd more than likely still gawk in admiration.

1975 was a great year for me at 13 years old I went to wembley and saw my team West ham win the FA cup and went to Hammersmith Odeon to see My favourite Band Sparks!

Zola is potentially a great Manager he just needs the tools! How awesome was Hammersmith in '75? I bunked off School on the Monday to Buy tickets for Lewisham Odeon, (which was quite a daunting trip from East London as a 13 year old alone) but when I got there it had been cancelled GUTTED!!!!!!!!!!!

Zola is top draw. I love managers to be in great physical shape and Zola is a classic example of just that.This tells me he is wired and disciplined. I reckon he could still get his boots on and play in their reserves or even at lower league level.I bet he joins in the physical training with the players and the five-a-side games.Gus Poyet is another fine example of just that..Pet hate of mine is when professional footballers retire and you see them on the telly a year later and they have morphed into Big Daddy.Keep fit and at it baby.

talking of west ham reserves (!), feel welcome to visit bishop's stortford's woodside park where the hammers' second string play. free entry for west ham season ticket holders. and if i'm on the tannoy, a sparks track is usually thrown in.

In 1975 I didn't knew about Sparks

..but in 1976 I've heard them on the radio a few times and xmas eve morning 1976 when I saw them on swedish telly with "Get In The Swing" one of the clips of it that is on youtube now (or atleast were).The clip were the light switches down to dark in the calmer/slower parts..It was in a Swedish childrensprogram "Trazan Apansson" with, atleast in Sweden ,famous actor Lars Åberg as "Trazan"..I REALLY thought Ron was in fact Lars Åberg in the clip BEFORE I knew how Ron looked like..To my defence I can say I was only almost 12 then

...Strange to think of a time when I DIDN'T knew about Sparks..before 1976...for instance in 1975..
