I'm hoping one the serious gigographers on here might be able to help me with this one.
My Dad reckons he saw Sparks back in around 1974/75 at High Wycombe Technical College in Buckinghamshire, but can't be sure if it was at that venue, or even that town! I now work on that campus, and sadly nobody has kept any record of gigs performed here. Does anybody in the Sparks camp remember if the band ever graced this town/venue?
Many thanks. |

Sparks were very popular at that time and selling-out 2000-4000 seat venues. I haven't been to a gig at Bucks New Uni but I'm pretty sure there isn't a space on campus that large. The Swan Theatre holds 1000 but it is only twenty years old and the Town Hall only seats 400. I can't think of any other large venues in Wycombe. So I think it is unlikely, unless perhaps it was a warm-up show before their UK tour.
High Wycombe doesn't appear in the List of Gigs thread.
If they did play in Wycombe, I would want a Blue Plaque put on the building! _________________ Gonna hang myself from my family tree. |

Another Wycombite! Good to meet you.
It was the old events hall that was used for gigs. This has now been pulled down, but it had a stage, and I have been told by University employees that T-Rex and the Sex Pistols played there. It was a fair size from memory. The Town Hall certainly has a solid gig history, so I guess that might be the more likely venue, if any, but yes, it may have been as a warm-up.
If we find proof, I'm right with you on the Blue Plaque!
Thanks for the gig list, that is very interesting. |
