My choice goes to My Baby's Taking Me Home.

Indescribably good. I was almost in tears at how wonderful it was.

Get In The Swing at Indiscreet is a close second just for the sheer rapture it generated.

And to make up a top 5:

3) Falling In Love With Myself Again
4) Suburban Homeboy
5) Goofing Off (at ECOTD - didn't go to Introducing)

I second MBTMH - it was phenomenal. Unexpected as well, because in previous performances of Lil Beethoven they played up more its novelty aspect, I seem to recall, with Russell singing into a row of separate microphones etc... whereas this time he brought out a more poignant quality of the song.

I thought Whippings and Apologies worked really well, especially as a set-closer. Russell really rocks when he wants to. Less emotional but great fun, Achoo and That's Not Nastassja. The former because the musicians got the giggles doing the backing vocals (sneezing in the microphones basically) and the latter because it was enormous fun singing along into a cacophony!

One song yesterday was spectacular. It was a song I'm not familiar with - I must admit there are a few gaps in my Sparksography - but I think it might have been Those Mysteries?

Yes got to be My Baby's Taking Me Home with Number One Song In Heaven with Jimmy Somerville a close second.

highlight for me was and is always the bit when the drums kick in on number one song in heaven. but there were so many others - including all those above.
in addition, decline and fall of me was great. i've never been high from last night. how about one from each night for atmosphere and other mind blowingness! (obscure b-sides not permitted).

My top three, from the five shows that I attended (the first five):

1. Get In The Swing, Indiscreet: It wasn't just the horns. It was the overall energy. The song is so fascinating because of the odd tempos and odd tempo shifts. Everyone was on top of their, particularly Steven Nistor. The flow of this song was just perfect. I always liked this song. After this performance, I love it.

2. Who Don't Like Kids, Propaganda: This is a song I dug even more than "Swing", before seeing it live. Hearing the dual guitar attack, I really appreciated all the separate parts that Ron came up with -- rarely have so many different hooks met up in one place. Tack on Ron doing his signature dance at the end, and I ask you all, who don't like "Who Don't Like Kids".

3. Whippings And Apologies, Woofer: So heavy, the band should have been saluted with Los Manos Cornudas (i.e., the horned hands, also known as the international rock and roll sign of Satan). Simply explosive, meriting the highest jumping pogo dancing by Steven McDonald of the five nights I was in attendance.

If this was solely devoted to Russell's vocal performances, it would be 32 way tie for first, I'd guess.

oh, other favourite moment was turning round in the middle of the chorus of the willies and seeing a sea of people with their eyes shut, heads off to the side, all mouthing 'the willies!'. i had hysterics, never laughed so hard at a gig, had to stop dancing and singing and lean on the barrier for dear life to try and catch my breath. thankyou everyone behind me, i'm never going to forget that.
