Not to detract from E-clect's poll...but just musing.....we all have our favourite track...and preference as to which should be a single.A straight vote...you don't even have to give reasons for your choice.
(PN...the topic title isn't a subliminal hint....lol)

I voted for As I Sit To Play... Not because i think it'll rocket it's way to the top of the charts but because it is totally SPARKS. It's got a great story, plus a bit of controversy(?) God & Sex which Prince would have liked to have written. Bombast and patience. It's so too much that it will turn a few heads, maybe just enough to keep R&R going on for a little while longer. You like or you don't... i think this is the one which might give 'em enough buzz.. get talked about. Do i see any posters at churches proclaiming a ban on SPARKS music?

Not me for sure, and I voted for As I Sit... too, reason roughly expressed already into the other poll.

Prosit!

I think that Waterproof is the nearest to a proper song for the chart going public and thats after some re-working.

Chicks dig dig is additive once heard and could go well provided that the punter hears it enough times to get hooked in.

Dick around is a massive gamble but if they were to release it then i hope it would be "as is" it could then sell one copy or stay at number 1 for the next 16 years!

I think Dick Around would be the perfect choice for a second single, so it gets a vote from me

I'd choose Metaphor. It's light and catchy, it could attract a wide audience of non-Sparks fans.

Yes, Metaphor is definitely one of the most catchy songs on Hello Young Lovers, and I wouldn't mind if this song was going to be released as a single, but I still prefer Dick Around - I'm absolutely crazy about this song

I've voted for Metaphor, simply because it's one of my favourites on the album. I think 'Notre Dame Cathedral' would be just too weird to appeal to the general public.

However, controversy sells! - Maybe if they released it alongside 'baby, baby, can I invade your country?'

Yes, controversy sell if it draws a lot of (good) attention. However if Sparks were to release Baby, Baby as a statement than it could backfire. It's like Aid Festival no 156348 were artists who's careers are at a low try to regain popularity by a free gig on TV. There are now more bands openly against 'THE WAR' but if Sparks entered at this stage it could be seen as cheap & easy publicity and not as a real political statement. Only if R&R were to campagne such as Bono or Bruce Springsteen or whoever than it might be taken seriousely but than you get the situation that the song is not liked for what it is (a good song) but as something that should be liked (or disliked) because it's politicaly correct.

Let's have some controversy about sex and religion instead > Madonna's & Prince' careers sure got/get boosted with that.

I would like to say that waterproof was not my first choice at first but after seeing SPARKS my favourite artistes at a concert I'm going to plump for this track.

They should try Dick Around.

I know a lot of people who normally don't like sparks and they are crazy about this song. Maybe that's a good sign?

I'd go for Dick Around - it's so original and bound to get a lot of attention. With it being a single, it would probably have to be the shorter version ( with all the heavy guitar parts, of course )

Follow up with Metaphor ( brilliant song! ) - still really original, but a bit more 'catchy'.

Waterproof is a great song, but not a single, for me.
