Annette has arrived and it got its first serious listen today. I love it. Completely. The "new" songs are addictive, especially Girls Love a Man Who Makes Them Laugh and (I Got a Lot in Common with) Dostoevsky. The latter is so much better than Adam Driver's never-ending stage show (I'm not a fan). Anyway, I'm sure that in a few months time they will release this digitally. I mean, why wouldn't they?

Anyone willing to share any digital rips of the Annette 2013 recordings with someone (...me) who bought the vinyl set but doesn't have a record player decent enough to play the vinyl, yet alone make his own digital copies?

(It's killing me not to be able to listen to these recordings!)

PM me if willing. (I have proof of purchase ... but can't see anyway of sharing images here unless online).

Thanks

All this sounds great to me! I expect I'll be getting the album for my birthday next week, but for now I'm loving Girls Love a Man Who Makes Them Laugh.

Today was Weihnachtsstollen (German Christmas bread) bake day at home, and with my husband out for a hike, I got to listen to Annette again straight through. It's really wonderful. Henry's comedy is more intellectual than shock jockish, which makes his turn to evil more surprising than it is in the movie. The lyrics to Dostoevsky 1 and 2 (Henry's comedy routines) are very witty.

I really hope that Sparks release this digitally so that more people can hear it.

Only listened to the album once so far, but the chorus of (I Got a Lot in Common with) Dostoevsky has been bouncing around in my head and my wife has been singing it to our cat since we heard it over the weekend. If they don't end up putting the whole album out digitally, I hope they at least put that out (both parts). I'm so glad they released "Too Operatic" to the masses. It's such a great climax to the whole thing. Baffling to me that it was left out of the movie.

I've listened a few times now and I think it's a profoundly beautiful piece of work..... I really loved the film so l'm not criticising it at all but the 2013 recordings are so different. It's such a pity they weren't performed live.... What a tour that would have been!
I don't understand why there is no CD release imminent (l daresay there may be technical reasons which escape me) but l really hope there will be soon because even though I have the vinyl everytime l play it my nerves are shattered, placing that stylus onto a work of genius with old trembling hands........

A kind person here sent me digitised versions and I've been listening to it a lot. Great stuff.

I created a playlist on my iTunes, which plays the 2013 and then the 2021 version of each song, and it's a great experience comparing the original v. final versions back to back ...

Can't wait for CD and/or full digital release, though!

What I found very interesting and unexpected was just how much the underlying meaning was changed from the original in the film

Same for me, I really hope that's the plan!
Thankfully we have a couple of songs to listen to (and they're both great!) to make it less painful ;)
